First Meeting - Holiday Inn, Concord
It was a fine New Hampshire winter day! The temperature was a bit on the chilly side with the high of about +15F (to be generous). It did keep a few away, but 133 brave souls of the 152 who had signed up came out in the cold to enjoy the First Meeting of the New Year held at the Holiday Inn, Concord, on January 22, 2005. The threatened blizzard was polite enough to wait until most everyone had returned home! Those that attended enjoyed a fine meal put on by the friendly staff of the Holiday Inn. We were joined by Col Roger F. Clements, ANG of the New Hampshire National Guard, who gave a very informative presentation on the structure and missions on the NHNG. It is hoped that he will take back to the NH Guard his warm reception by our chapter and that we may gain some new members. We were also joined by a neighbor to the East. Col Bill Hall, USAF (Ret.), Secretary of the Southern Maine Chapter of MOAA, attended to see how our Five-Star Chapter conducts business. (He said he was impressed!)
Second Meeting—Promises to Keep, Derry
"Beware the Ides of March" or was it "Beware the Ices of March"!? Who would have thought that meant a blizzard in March? The heavy snow storm kept away many of those who had signed up. 63 stalwart members and guests out of 147 braved the weather to attend the Second Meeting of 2005 held at Promises To Keep in Derry on March 12, 2005. Those that did make it were treated to a beautiful winter country view from the windows of this elegant location. Once again the staff of Promises To Keep provided us with outstanding service and a delicious meal. All enjoyed the presentation by chapter member Col William J. Moran, USAF (Ret.) on the important service provided by the Civil Air Patrol here in New Hampshire. We were joined by two first time members - Patrick and Cheryl Maroney of Salem, and we even had two guests at the luncheon join the chapter on the spot - Caldwell and Leslie Smith of Amherst. Everyone looks forward to returning to Promises To Keep as soon as possible, hopefully in better weather!
