Veterans Administration Submitted by Catherine Fields Veteran health-care
services in New Hampshire will expand under a VA restructuring plan released
May 7, 2004. Additional outpatient services, more in-state acute care hospitalization
and expanded mental health services are recommended for improvement.
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony Principi said, “These changes will provide greater access to care for veterans. By strengthening our network of outpatient clinics, we will bring a greater quality of care close to where most of New Hampshire’s veterans live.” There will be no closures or reductions in services at the VA Medical Center Manchester or the VA Medical Center White River Junction (VT) under the 10-year plan called “Capital Asset Realignment for Enhanced Services (CARES). To do this the VA Medical Center in Manchester will expand its contract with Catholic Medical Center so more veterans needing acute care can get their services there. Manchester VAMC will also develop |
an outpatient orthopedic program and
expand its existing cataract surgery program. In addition, neurological
services are being considered for the Manchester VAMC. Services are also
expected to expand at the four outreach clinics located in Portsmouth,
Conway, Tilton, and Wolfeboro.
Website In case you have not visited the Chapter’s website recently, it is worth a visit. The Chapter received a communications award from MOAA, as second runner up for best website. Our intrepid webmaster, Michael McLean, keeps the site up to date and has added many new links. For example, he includes a link to MOAA’s legislative update, and publishes this newsletter and the minutes from the Board of Directors’ meetings on the site. In short, there is a plethora of information on the site. If you have information related to MOAA or veterans’ activities and would like it posted on the website, please contact Michael. GREAT JOB Michael! |
